Check-in

At your routine dental check-up appointment, you will be greeted warmly by our office receptionist. Responsible for coordinating your payments, insurance information, and appointments, she will provide you with all the necessary information for that day’s appointment as well as your future appointments.

X-rays (if necessary)

If your visit requires x-rays, you will have a heavy, protective apron placed upon you while you bite down on a plastic dental device designed to properly align your teeth. The device is a painless and convenient component of the process that is critical for the x-ray machine to produce clear and concise imagery of your entire mouth. The dental device will be removed and reinserted a series of times in order to obtain pictures of all of your teeth.

Dental Hygienist Cleaning

After checking in, you will be led to one of our patient rooms where you will be met by a member of our expertly trained dental hygienist team. Your dental hygienist will use sanitized metal tools to thoroughly clean your teeth by a process starting with the scraping off of tartar on the surface of your teeth, followed by an extensive flossing. They will then use a gentle but highly effective polishing compound on your teeth and subsequently apply fluoride to finish the process.

Dentist

After the dental hygienist finishes her job, you will be met by one of our dentists. The dentist will proceed to examine your mouth, inspecting the tartar removal, flossing, and polishing and fluoride applications that just took place.

The dentist will also examine your back teeth and determine whether or not you need a simple sealant to help prevent cavities from forming. Sealants are designed to inhibit food and bacteria from getting stuck in the grooves or chewing surfaces of your teeth. Sealants also work to protect your teeth from plaque.

After determining if your back teeth would benefit from a sealant, your dentist will complete a comprehensive fluoride application to the surface of your teeth to help prevent tooth decay

You may or may not require the use of antibiotics during a dental check-up or basic dental work. If you are a person who is prone to infections, antibiotics are recommended and available to help prevent infection. If you are aware of any potential problems you may have with infections, feel free to ask one of our knowledgeable dentists about the antibiotics we have available for your individual needs.

You may need to take antibiotics during dental visits if you:

  • Have certain heart problems (inform your dentist of any heart conditions)
  • Have an impaired immune system
  • Had major surgeries that recently took place
  • Have artificial body parts (ex. artificial hip or heart valve)

In addition to asking health-related questions to determine your possible need for antibiotics, your dentist may inquire about the foods you eat in order to see if you are getting enough necessary vitamins and minerals to sustain the health of your teeth.

Your dentist will also talk to you about any signs of tooth decay or gum disease they might see. If either of those is present in your mouth, the dentist will talk with you about how to improve dental hygiene through brushing and flossing. He or she may also advise you on any additional antibiotics, specialty mouthwashes, or further dental treatments you may require.

Our dental checkups are conducted through a meticulously extensive process designed to give you an impeccably clean and healthy mouth. Throughout the process, our professionally-trained staff keeps a careful watch out for any dental problems like cavities, decay, or plaque. Once any problems are identified, we quickly and effectively remedy the issues and provide you with the comprehensive information you need to make fully informed dental decisions in the future and to ensure you have the healthiest mouth and smile possible.
